I can't say this enough. My couples are the most fun and crazy out there. And that is just my cup of tea. The more life and non-traditional they are, the more I want to be their photographer.
Here are just a handful of shots from Jasmine and David's Mardi Gras wedding here in New Orleans. I usually don't take weddings during Mardi Gras because the logistics of getting in and out of the French Quarter with heavy equipment is not an easy task, but when Jasmine and I talked it was clear this was one wedding I couldn't pass on.
Once we picked their venue location I suggested they hire a lighting company to highlight their awesome band, The Paulin Brothers Brass Band, the oldest continuous brass band in New Orleans, and to put a spotlight on the activities I knew would occur during the ceremony.
Mix an attorney with a blues musician and filmmaker, throw in their family and closest friends from all over the country during Mardi Gras and, voila, it's a party! Unfortunately, because it was parade night, the NOPD wouldn't approve their second-line application, but being David and Jasmine, coupled with the the Paulin Brothers and a makeshift, flash second-line materialized. We didn't have the awesome ambient light we usually have on Bourbon Street but we made things work!
And the party really spanned three days. I can't forget to mention that the guest book was handcrafted by the bride and friends with an awesome photographer friend's candid polaroids added as the night progressed.
First, we all met up at 3 Muses for a private party overlooking Frenchmen Street; then, the day after the wedding, we did a fun family shoot in Woldenberg Park for the free Zulu party and bands. Great memories and a friendship has begun!
