So, this article showed up in one of my feeds a couple days ago. A guy wrote about how he believes social media, texting and such are what led to his divorce. Basically, a lack of intimacy.
To paraphrase greatly. He felt that we have become so involved with social media and the instantaneous communication through instant messaging and texting that we have lost intimacy...touch...face-to-face communication.
I thought it would be an interesting subject for a conversation with my husband that night. We don't think the ultimate demise of his marriage was due to social media. So many just don't want to take responsibility for their failures. Those are what make us better people. Without failure there is no success. So as we chatted about it and the one thing we found kind of ironic is how social media has actually helped our marriage.
We celebrated our 20 year anniversary last year. After a few years, if you are well suited for each other, you have many of the same political, religion and societal thoughts and ideas. You know after awhile there really isn't anything new to talk about except work or gossiping about neighbors and acquaintences. Not too healthy. But through the special friends we have added to our Facebook list we find new and interesting ideas and topics. We always enjoy a good discussion about politics, religion or society.
It keeps things fresh. So instead of Kevin whacking me with a hammer and burying me in the swamp we actually get to know each other a little bit more. Just the other day we were talking and I found out something I never knew before about him. Funny.
Bottom Line? You gotta keep it fresh. And don't plot killing each other. It's just messy. There's no more room at the cool cemeteries! Make love. Not jail time!
