Recently my husband Kevin and I met up with a couple whose wedding we shot a bit over a year ago during the heart of Mardi Gras. As we were catching up he, a bluesman out of Los Angeles, said “Pam, your images project an intimacy between couples that is rarely captured between a couple fully dressed.”. I keep thinking about what David said and while processing a sweet elopement I did yesterday I understood what he meant. I really hadn’t thought about it to be honest until he brought it up. But there is this intimacy between them and every couple who steps in front of my lens. As if maybe I am not even there.

I wondered how am I able to capture these very real and very intimate moments. The way I dress and conduct myself is definitely not traditional or formal. Boom! That is it. I just become invisible. Just another tourist out there snapping photos. But there is more to it as well. Connection. Between each other and between us. Its definitely very relaxed as I am not into dragging tons of lighting equipment with me or an assistant (unless necessary). No big production because it is NOT necessary to achieve artistic and honest candids. Using a minimal amount of equipment while utilizing years of experience and knowledge in lighting makes it possible to turn what could be a terrifying experience for some camera shy people into a relaxed, often crazy, session with no pressure.
