American Gothic Style Wedding Portraits
About four years ago I photographed a couple's elopement here in New Orleans.
When we talked on the phone I mentioned how I was tossing around the idea of doing a portrait project using the famous Grant Woods painting American Gothic. We chatted a bit about what I was thinking after she informed me that they met at a Grant Woods Exhibition.
They hired me on the spot. It was kismet.
The only rules were and are that I cannot pose them or interfere in any way.
It has to be about them and where they are today, right this moment. Some brought props and one even forged one out of steel since she is a metal artist. About half chose to eschew their wedding attire and wear something that really represented them.
The most important aspect to the idea was the image had to be representative of them, the real self.
Here we are four years later, the concept became a reality as I was finally able to define what I wanted the final product to look like and how to achieve it with my style of street photography.
Many couples were really into adding this little portrait session for something very different than what most wedding photographers deliver. As time passed though, more and more couples wanted to participate who were already married or just dating. It's been rewarding and is an ongoing project that I hope in the near future to exhibit at a local gallery.
Take a look. I admit it is not for everyone but if you are into having a truly one of a kind, unique and artistic photographic capture give me a call to inquire about pricing and availability. Call me, 504-920-8703.
