I recently had the opportunity to photograph the championship round here in New Orleans that revealed the best red beans and rice. The event was created by the Krewe of Red Beans and Dead Beans of which I belong. It is a yearly event that benefits Make Music NOLA and Anna's Place. Built to mimic the college basketball brackets restaurants competed against each other at many different locations in the city. Blind taste tests of the finalists, Joey K's and Ma Momma's were the two finalists. Chef Reero (Rene) Guzman, part owner and chef of Ma Mommas House of Cornbread and Chicken took home the custom made bean trophy with her spicy beans. And I must say I have eaten at Ma Momma's. The fried chicken and waffles rock too!!! I highly recommend you check out this little jewel in New Orleans East. You can even get their food delivered through Uber Eats.
