Part of any wedding are the candid photographs, much discussed these days in wedding blogs. They are a very special part of your wedding photographs and really the very most important. Not everyone can capture good candid photographs. They would seem simple right? Just point, wait and power shoot. Oh no, not so much.

Candids are just that. Snippets of moments where the subject/s are unaware of the camera and photographer. Not an easy feat when they know you are the photographer hired to photograph them! Street photographers and Photojournalists shoot candids. Un-rehearsed, un-scripted and definitely not repeatable! A really good candid photographer watches with 360 degree vision, always checking the light, exposure, surroundings, backdrops and of course you. They know how to fade into the background, completely un-noticeable. And its not just what they wear, it is an ease with the environment. Patience and reading body language all are aspects important as well. One of my favorite photographers of all time is James Nachtwey. A former war photographer he was a rare bird in that he could remain invisible and be 3' from the subject. It truly is a gift and what it takes to get candids that tell a story just like a photograph should.
