Posing for Wedding Photographs
First, let me make one thing clear: I do NOT bend and shape you into my own pre-conceived idea of who you are.
I find out who you are and let you tell me.
That may sound rather esoteric but it's not.
We are all imperfect individuals with beautiful souls that we often hide. I find that "beautiful you" both inside and out, capture it and present it to you.
Of course we talk about any special needs you might have and the best way to present yourself to the camera, but honestly, it's those in-between moments when you think the camera isn't watching that I catch. Those are you and they are strikingly beautiful.
Here are a couple of tricks of posing for photographers that work for almost everyone:
1. If you need a bit of slenderizing, never face the camera straight on.
Go look at any celebrity publication, especially during red carpet season, and you will see how to slightly turn one hip to the camera, move one foot back a bit and shift your weight on it. Imagine you are a puppet held by one, taut string from the sky to your core. Take a deep breath and RELAX a bit. Drop your chin down a tad while slightly pressing it forward. It feels a bit awkward at first, but try it out at home in the mirror. Take some selfies, and no, not from the sky! Take them straight on. Turn your head slightly, play with raising and lowering your chin while extending it. You will see what looks best. Remember if you are great at selfies, most often they are done holding the phone above your head. Photographers only do that for a handful of artsy photos. You do that in front of our camera...and you look like a camel. Ick. ;)
2. Take a deep breath, step back, and look at your mate.
Yeah, that's right, you are now married. Now ignore that silly lady across the street with a camera and just embrace, jump, play, tease, pose. Be you. That's what you want to remember. That warmth and glow you feel captured in a photograph.
Go forth young, or old, lovers and enjoy the wonderful years to come. In the meantime check out a few shots from Ana and Frederick's wedding.
